HARD ARC 9
JIS Z3251 DF3C-500-R
DIN 8555 E 6-UM-60
EN 14700 E Fe 8
CHARACTERISTICS
•Tough Work-Hardening, retaine-Austenitic C-Cr-Mn Deposit
•Work Harden Under High Impact and Gourging Abrasion.
DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATIONS
HARD ARC 9 is a basic coated, AC / DC electrode for general purpose hard surfacing applications on carbon or austenitic manganese steels. This electrode deposits a tough, retaine austenitic C-Cr-Mn alloy capable of withstanding heavy gouging abrasion and impact. Typical applications include rebuilding or overlay of crusher jaws, rolls, cones, hammers, tractor grousers, dozer blades, rippers and conveyor chains. When welding on high carbon steels and alloy steels of high hardenability, preheat is recommended or alternatively a “buffer” layer of ER70S-6 or E7018 may be used with a lower preheat temperature.
DEPOSIT PROPERTIES
HARD ARC 9 deposits a tough, retaine-austenitic, C-Cr-Mn hard surfacing alloy which is air
hardenable and can be work hardened to give a wear resistant surface to withstand heavy impact
and gouging abrasion.
Notes on usage
(1) Preheat at 150℃ and over in general.
(2) It is desirable to postheat at about 600℃ .
(3) In case of multi-layer build-up welding or welding mother plates with hardening property, under-lay with low hydrogen type electrodes for mild steel.
(4) Dry the electrodes at 300~350℃ for 120 minutes before use.

Typical hardness of weld metal
SINGLE-LAYER ONTO MILD STEEL | 44- 49 HRC |
MULTI-LAYER, AS WELDED | 36-45 HRC |
MULTI-LAYER, WORK HARDENED | 48- 53 HRC |
• Single layer deposit hardness may vary depending on base metal type and degree of dilution.
